YOUTUBE, ANIMOTO, and QR CODES

YouTube, Animoto, and QR Codes

YouTube

1. Norman High School Library:
The video that would be the most helpful is "How to Use EBSCO Host."  This is a great screencast of the school librarian explaining how to search for information, make citations, and acquire permalinks.
The video that students would like the best is "Norman Public Schools Celebrates Your Freedom to Read."  Students would be astounded to see that their favorite books and authors are being challenged and/or banned.

2. The Unquiet Library:
"Tillery Tutorial Video: Creative Commons 101 for Senior Project Slides" is the video that would be the most helpful because it explains the 4 types of images students will see when collecting pictures for research.  The presenter does a great job of explaining Creative Commons and the different categories associated with it.

The most popular video would be "The Importance of Choice for Igniting Student Passion and Learning Through Research Projects."  It is a student who did a research project accompanied by a photograph/art gallery to illustrate the symptoms of PTSD.   Many students will want to learn about this current struggle faced by our veterans.  The photographs are very compelling and shows that educators should let students have some choice in how they present their research.

3. Pikesville High School Library
The most helpful video is "2014-15 Course Advisement" because it explains degree requirements. There were no tutorial videos like the other high school.
Hopefully, the most popular video would be "PHS Financial Aid Workshop 2013" because it describes how to get financial aid and scholarships. I went to a similar workshop when my son was a senior and it was invaluable!

Ava Director's Video 12/1/16 is the most helpful video because Ava explains how she makes her videos.  I think there are students who will try to make director videos like her.
The most popular video will me one of the "Minute To Win It" videos.  The coolest challenge is the "Stick the Landing" video in which the player has to flip a water bottle and make it land on a table.  The students will all want to try it!

I made a book trailer for Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.  The hardest part is picking what background you would like.  I think it was easy to make a book trailer with pictures and text.  It is nice that the music is there and it can easily be changed.

Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. There, before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess, and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays the only certainty is betrayal.
This sweeping story of palace intrigue, class hierarchy, and deception will keep readers hurtling along, desperate to find out Mare’s fate. Her honesty and determination, quick wit, and no-holds-barred attitude will surely make readers fall in love with her.https://animoto.com/play/z091dzg4tnD4HJcoiu4Hng

How will I use QR codes in my library?
I found this website: http://www.msoreadsbooks.com/p/qr-codes-in-elementary-school-library.html with great ideas on how to use QR codes.  For the Bluebonnet books, the librarian has QR codes on the books that connect to book trailers or author websites. She also has video clips to go with the 2x2s.  I would definitely try these two ways to use QR codes in my library!!!

  1. I loved the book The Red Queen! I enjoyed your book trailer too. I really like the idea of using QR codes for Bluebonnet books. Our students participate in Battle of the Books which we base on the Bluebonnet books. This would be a great way to introduce them.
